It’s been 50 years since Plymouth entered the SCCA Trans Am racing series with a race version of a street machine that has become a true legend — the ’70 AAR ’Cuda. Plymouth built a total of 2,724 of these street-version muscle cars in a special production run in March and April 1970. Today, the 340 cubic inch, 6-pack carbureted AAR ’Cudas are some of the hottest collector cars in today’s market.
Veterans and children’s charities are counting on you. Enter now.
Make a generous donation today and you’ll be one step closer to bringing home this extremely low-mile ’70 Plymouth AAR ’Cuda documented by one of the nation’s leading Mopar experts.
This Bright Red ’70 AAR ‘Cuda shows 58,000 miles on its odometer. According to its inspection report, “This vehicle is a restored and well cared for original 1970 Plymouth AAR ’Cuda built at the Hamtramck Assembly plant during the 1970 model year. This is a very solid no-excuse car. There are no signs that the car had never been disassembled. All the options on the OEM factory broadcast sheet are on the vehicle.”
Checking the AAR option at a Plymouth dealer back in 1970 transformed a standard ’Cuda into a mean muscle car with the ultimate in performance attitude. Here’s what was included in the rare All American Racer (AAR) package. We’ll start with the mandatory 340 cubic inch V-8 with three two-barrel Holley carbs and a factory Edelbrock 3x2 intake delivering 290 horsepower and 335 lb-ft of torque. All that power is transferred to a bulletproof TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission and an 8 3/4-inch rear end housing 3.55:1 gears.
The most identifiable visual aspect of the AAR package is a toss up between the single-snorkel lightweight fiberglass hood and the AAR strobe stripes that run from bumper to bumper.
Then there’s the suspension. According to the writers at Hagerty, “The AAR suspension included special front and rear sway bars and heavy-duty shock absorbers. Heavy-duty rear leaf springs raised the rear end of the car to make room for the side-exiting exhaust and provided room for Goodyear G60X15 tires at the rear and E60X15 in the front, making the AAR ’Cuda the first American modern-day production vehicle to come with different-sized tires front to rear.”
This grand-prize 1970 Plymouth AAR ’Cuda left Plymouth’s Hambrook Assembly Plant on March 18, 1970 and features the following verified factory options:
